Children learned about the many skilled trade professions in the province at a recent workshop in Maple Ridge.
The trades workshop featured an overview of various trade professions, and children learned about the responsibilities of different professionals and the important roles they play within the community – like carpenters and electricians.
It was geared for children 6-12 years old.
Participants then partook in practical woodworking projects where, using basic tools and materials, they made small locomotives and logging trucks.
They also made a light-up card, helping them to understand the basics of electricity and how a simple circuit works to generate power; and a robotic arm demonstrating the concept of hydraulics and where they are most commonly used.
The Feb. 13 workshop was organized by Boomgaard Early Learning and Child Care Centre and sponsored by Anukaran and Skilled Trades B.C.
