The Calgary Wild are nuts about their latest signing.
Vernon’s Molly Race – who was born in Cowtown – will continue her professional soccer career in the city of her birth as she inked a deal with the Calgary Wild FC of the Northern Super League Monday, Feb. 9.
The Northern Super League is the top-division professional women’s soccer league in Canada.
A graduate of W.L. Seaton Secondary, Race played for the UBC Okanagan Heat from 2020 to 2022, then spent three years playing professionally with FC Nordsjælland in Denmark’s Kvinde-DM Liga.
During her time in Denmark, she helped her team with the league title and qualifying for the Women’s Champions League. This past season, as the team’s primary starting goalkeeper, she appeared in 12 matches, recording five clean sheets (no goals allowed) while playing 1,080 minutes.
“We couldn’t be more proud or excited for Molly as she returns home to sign with Calgary Wild,” said Heat assistant coach Harry Butler, who oversees the team’s goalkeepers. “She’s an exceptional goalkeeper with elite distribution and shot-stopping ability, but even more than that, she’s an incredible professional who works relentlessly every single day.”
Added the Wild on its social media feed: “Molly brings composure on the ball, elite distribution, clear communication, and confident leadership from the back, with a strong desire to keep growing. There’s no doubt she’ll be a huge addition to our goalkeeping group!”
Race finished her time at UBCO playing all 2,340 minutes of the 2021 and 2022 seasons, recording a 6-14-6 record including a 1.62 goals against average while making 122 saves.
“Molly set the standard with her work ethic, humility and commitment to improve herself and others around her,” said Butler. “Molly’s journey reflects the growth of women’s soccer in Canada, and her commitment to helping build the professional game at home is truly special. Calgary Wild are getting a goalkeeper who will raise the standard of everyone around her, and I can’t wait to watch her continue to grow as a person and a player.”
The Northern Super League began operations in 2025, and includes six teams: the Wild, Vancouver Rise FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montreal Roses FC, Ottawa Rapid FC, and AFC Toronto. The Rise are the league’s reigning champions.
The league has said it’s looking to add an expansion team in 2027, focusing on Central and Western Canada.
The Wild will open their 2026 NSL season on Saturday, April 25 against the Montreal Roses.
