The City of Pitt Meadows has been selected as one of B.C.’s top employers for 2026.
The city was awarded the prestigious designation this week by Mediacorp Canada, which recognizes organizations across the province for excellence in workplace culture, employee engagement, and progressive people practices.
There are 118 full-time and 44 part-time employees working for the city. Some of the highlights for employees are a 35-hour work week with full pay, up to $800 per year for mental health practitioners, a maternity top-up of 95 per cent of salary for 17 weeks, and up to $2,000 per year in tuition subsidies for job-related courses.
An employee-led spirit committee works to introducefun in the workplace, organizing numerous social events for employees throughout the year such as weekly drop-in pickleball games, Valentine’s candy grams, an annual Christmas holiday party, a summer golf tournament, take your dog to work day, and a number of charitable fundraisers – from a baking competition to a wine and spirits Survivor-style game, noted Mediacorp.
“As a small municipality, we take great pride in fostering a workplace that reflects the best of small-town values—connection, community and care,” said Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “This recognition affirms council’s commitment to corporate pride and to ensuring the City of Pitt Meadows is not only a great place to live, but also a great place to work. When our employees feel supported and valued, our entire community benefits.”
Pitt Meadows was recognized for its strong employee experience, including competitive compensation and benefits, flexible work arrangements, compressed work week options, collaborative labour relations and a proactive safety culture.
“We believe great work happens when people are supported, challenged and given room to grow,” said city CAO Mark Roberts. “We invest in our employees’ development, recognize their contributions, and create an environment where individuals can do meaningful work while building lasting careers.”
The city also invests in individualized training and development plans and works to provide meaningful career pathways for employees.
Employers are evaluated against eight criteria including workplace, work atmosphere, benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, skills development, and community involvement.
