Henrik Sedin Q&A planned for Vancouver Canucks Day in Abbotsford

Vancouver’s all-time leading scorer and 2022 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Henrik Sedin is one of several featured team alumni appearing at the Rogers Forum during Vancouver Canucks Day on Saturday (Feb. 7).

The 2010 Hart Memorial Trophy winner is participating in a pre-game Q&A on the arena’s south rise starting at 3:05 for the annual event, which also sees the host Abbotsford Canucks take on the San Jose Barracuda.

The Q&A session is one of several activities planned throughout the game.

Sedin served as Vancouver’s captain from 2010 to 2018 and scored 1,070 points in 1330 games for the franchise. He also earned an Olympic gold medal with Sweden in 2006. Sedin has worked in Vancouver Canucks hockey operations since 2021 and now works in player development in both Abbotsford and Vancouver.

Alumni Q&A’s also occur in the first and second intermission of Saturday’s game. The first intermission features Garry Monahan and Denis Kearns, while the second intermission welcomes Chris Oddleifson and Darcy Rota.

Monahan was famously known as the first-ever draft pick in NHL history and was chosen by the Montreal Canadiens with the number one pick in the 1963 draft. After seasons with Montreal, Detroit, Los Angeles and Toronto, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks by the Maple Leafs in 1974. He spent four seasons with Vancouver and collected 140 points in 287 games. He retired in 1982 and also spent time on Canucks radio broadcasts.

Kearns spent his entire NHL career with the Canucks, debuting in 1971 and playing until 1981. He finished with 321 points in 677 games and his most productive season occurred in 1976-77 when he scored 60 points in 80 games. He ranks fifth all-time in scoring and fourth in games played for a Canucks defenceman. His 290 assists trail only Quinn Hughes and Alex Edler.

Oddleifson served as Canucks team captain in the 1976-77 season and played eight seasons in Vancouver. Prior to his time in Vancouver he played parts of two seasons in Boston. Oddleifson recorded a career-high 62 points in 80 games in the 1975-76 season. He wore Canucks colours from 1974 to 1981.

Vancouver product Darcy Rota played six seasons for the Chicago Blackhawks and two seasons for the Atlanta Flames before joining the Canucks in the 1979-80 season. He went on to play five seasons in Vancouver and was a key figure in the franchise’s first-ever Stanley Cup appearance in 1982. He scored a career-high 81 points in 73 games for the Canucks in 1982-83, but retired due to injuries in 1984. Rota ranks 34th all-time in Canucks scoring with 236 points in 289 games. His points per game (.817) is 22nd in franchise history.

Outside of the Q&A sessions, the Canucks have also stated that a number of in-game activations, Vancouver mascot Fin and scratch and win prizes are available for fans to take home. Prizes include: a signed Henrik Sedin jersey, dinner at the Captain’s Room at Rogers Arena (including Vancouver Canucks tickets), tickets to Vancouver Canucks games and more.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the game, as the session with Sedin is expected to begin promptly at 3:05 p.m.

The Canucks and Barrcauda face-off at 4 p.m on Saturday, with the two teams also battling on Friday (Feb. 6) on First Nations Night. That game has a puck drop time of 7 p.m.
