Ridge Meadows RCMP look back on 2025

Ridge Meadows RCMP Superintendent Adam Gander, the officer in charge of the detachment, compiled a year in review of local policing efforts in 2025.

He cited challenges and successes, and a four per cent increase in the number of calls for service, up to 27,164, or almost 75 per day.

In Gander’s words:

”Our detachment was fortunate enough to welcome 19 new police officers to our team, working alongside our municipal partners to better serve our residents. Many of these officers were deployed as Frontline officers, the backbone of our operations and the first response to any ongoing and emerging policing issues in our community.

“A large portion of our calls for service involve vulnerable persons in our community and ensuring they’re connected with the resources and support they need. Our officers responded to 1,711 mental health calls and investigated 533 missing persons files in 2025. Many of those involved our Mental Health Unit and connecting residents with housing and substance use supports.

“In April, our Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) was given a revised mandate to focus primarily on downtown Maple Ridge. In 2025, CRU officers generated over 250 files and conducted almost 300 foot and bike patrols covering over 1,000 kilometres in the downtown core.

“We also increased the number of officers in our Family and Youth Resource Support Team this past year. To date, the team has worked with more than 80 youth and families getting them support they need. The team also attended every school in the district and interacted and engaged with youth through several different community and school initiatives.

“Our Road Safety Target Team continues to focus on the most high-risk driving behaviours. Two members of the team were officially recognized with Alexa Awards for removing over 40 impaired drivers from our roadways. Officers also stopped 232 drivers for excessive speeding in 2025, with over half of them driving more than 60km/h over the speed limit.

“Our Street Enforcement Unit executed a number of search warrants for a variety of offences including drug trafficking, stolen property, frauds, and weapons offences. Our Serious Crime Unit and Investigative Support Team were involved in several high-risk investigations and submitted dozens of complex investigations to Crown Counsel for charge assessment. These sections were also available 24/7 to assist Frontline officers with investigative support and did so on over 100 different files of added complexity.

“We continued our commitment to community engagement by hosting several events in the community including Coffee with a Cop, Pop with a Cop, volunteer and officer recruitment sessions, and our very first open house for City of Maple Ridge staff. Stay tuned for more information on our next open house for the public in 2026.

“Our administrative support sections were also busy supporting all matters of operations. This included our Crime Prevention Unit which was involved in over 60 community events, and our Victim Services caseworkers who were called out over 100 times to assist victims of crime. Our front counter staff also handled over 11,000 walk-ins to our detachment and our switchboard operators received over 12,000 calls from the public. Our amazing volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of service to our community in 2025 (Crime Prevention: 5,476, Victim Services: 3,079) helping us deliver much needed programming and support to our community to enhance public safety.

“We also received our detachment’s first marked electric police vehicle as part of an ongoing RCMP pilot project designed to evaluate the feasibility of zero-emission vehicles for policing across Canada.”
