Mercedes-Benz enters the B.C. EV charging market

There are now more local electric vehicle charging options than ever before, with Mercedes-Benz recently opening its first three Lower Mainland stations, including one right here in Abbotsford.

These new charging hubs all have 400 kW Alpitronic chargers, which are the first of their kind in Canada, and are able to provide a vehicle with more than 300 km of range in only 10 minutes.

This is good news for not just Mercedes-Benz customers, but for all EV drivers, since the charging stations use a four-cable system that is compatible with both North American Charging Standard and Combined Charging System 1 connectors.

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging North America CEO, Heiko Schmidt, said this versatility will help eliminate one of the biggest headaches that EV drivers face when looking for a place to charge their vehicle.

“With our new design, every stall supports every vehicle – no adapters, no barriers – reflecting our commitment to simplicity, reliability, and access for all,” said Schmidt.

“It’s an important step in building the infrastructure EV ownership demands while strengthening the public charging network in Canada.”

Located just off Highway 1 and Highway 11, the new Abbotsford charging station at Abbotsford Power Centre (1201 Sumas Way) provides a convenient option for both locals and travellers.

Joining Abbotsford in getting one of these new charging stations is:

• Pitt Meadows (Meadowvale Shopping Centre)

• Tsawwassen (Tsawwassen Mills)

This is only the first phase of the company’s expansion into the B.C. EV charging market, with multiple other charging hubs set to open soon, said Mercedes-Benz Canada CEO Andreas Tetzloff.

“Canada’s EV drivers deserve charging infrastructure that matches their expectations,” said Tetzloff.

“This network extends the Mercedes-Benz experience, ensuring that whether you’re driving one of our EV models or any other EV, you have access to premium infrastructure that makes electric vehicle ownership seamless.”

The other cities that are expected to get their own Mercedes-Benz EV charging stations within the next few months include Surrey, Coquitlam, Nanaimo, Penticton, and Squamish.
