Young entrepreneurs are now eligible to enter a contest to pitch their business ideas at a Dragon’s Den-style event.
UPlan, a youth-led committee of the City of Maple Ridge Youth Planning Table, is bringing back “Youth Tank”, where youth aged 14 to 24 can pitch their amazing business ideas to a panel of judges and compete for $5,000 in funding to help launch or grow their new business.
Kim Dumore, youth co-chair with uPlan, said young people can apply whether they already have a small business, a side hustle, or they are just starting with a strong idea they’re passionate about.
It’s a chance to receive funding, mentorship, and community support, noted Dumore.
“Youth Tank is about more than just money,” she explained. “It’s about giving young people the confidence to share their ideas, connecting them with local businesses and mentors, and showing them that Maple Ridge is a community where youth leadership is taken seriously.”
To qualify, youth must live, work, or go to school in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows. They can apply as individuals or in small teams.
Any type of business or social enterprise idea is welcome, said Dumore. And, no business experience is required, only an idea, commitment, and a willingness to learn.
Shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to pitch their idea or business live on stage at Albion Community Centre on April 24, 2026.
They will receive feedback from local business owners and community leaders, and they might receive up to $5,000 in funding to help launch or grow their business.
It is also a great way to build connections that can support them long after the event ends.
