It’s a rainy, windy Monday throughout the Lower Mainland, and Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for certain parts of the province.
Rain, at times heavy, is expected throughout northern sections of Metro Vancouver — including including West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, as well as Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky Highway from Squamish to Brandywine.
The federal agency says a frontal system will bring rain to the south coast today, with periods of rain expected to intensify to heavy rain by later this morning.
Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas and visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times, Environment Canada noted, and cautioned drivers to take extra time for travel.
Five highway alerts have also been issued due to strong winds that include the Sea to Sky Highway, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, the Coquihala Highway from Hope to Merritt, Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton, and the Coquihala Highway from Merritt to Kamloops.
Winds are forecast to start later today through tonight, gusting up to 80 km/h.
