Construction beginning at Blue Mountain Elementary in Maple Ridge

Construction on the addition to Blue Mountain Elementary is about to begin.

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, construction fencing went up around the designated work zone on the west side of the school, with full site preparation activity expected to begin on Monday, Dec. 8.

In September 2024, the Ministry of Education and Child Care announced it would fund a five-classroom prefabricated addition at Blue Mountain Elementary, adding 120 new student seats to the school.

With sustainable and energy-efficient designs, the additions will align with the Province’s CleanBC targets and meets B.C.’s enhanced energy requirements.

During construction, the school district is asking parents and caregivers to plan for extra time when dropping off, picking up, or travelling in the area.

Pedestrian access to the school will remain open, although some pathways may be re-routed. Pedestrians are asked to follow posted signage.

The main parking lots will also remain open.

Intermittent traffic delays may occur on 248 Street, but flaggers will be on-site.

“We are sharing this information to help you plan for the temporary changes that come with construction. The district will continue to work closely with ETRO Construction to minimize disruptions throughout the construction period, and we will share any key updates with you as they become available,” said the school district online.

The new classrooms will be in a single-story detached addition near the main building and are scheduled to open for classes in September 2026.
