Hope receives new EV charging hub from BC Hydro

Another EV charging station is now available for drivers in Hope, bringing the total number of charging ports to 62.

BC Hydro’s eight new high-powered charging ports, for light – to medium – duty EVs, are now available to use at the Silver Creek Travel Centre on 19700 Klassen Rd.

The company’s first exclusively high-powered EV charging hub features four 350-kilowatt chargers that can support two cars each (for a total of eight EVs being able to use the chargers at the same time). BC Hydro said the ports can add “100 km of driving to an average EV in about five minutes.”

According to BC Hydro, the chargers are the highest-powered in its systems and can accommodate delivery vans and semi-truck tractors.

“This new electric vehicle charge hub in Hope continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. “With more than 700 BC Hydro charging ports now available in communities throughout B.C., we are building a public charging network that’s ready to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and will support economic growth in our province.”

The chargers were funded thanks to BC Hydro’s partnership with the province and Natural Resources Canada.

When combined with the charging station at 434 Wallace Street, Hope now has 10 BC Hydro charging ports for EV drivers to use. The other ports are operated by Tesla, On the Run EV, and Electrify Canada.

According to BC Hydro, there are over 215,000 EVS in the province that require fast-charging hub sites to support their journeys on “highway corridors and highly populated areas.” To meet this demand, in the past year BC Hydro has installed 418 charging ports and now has a total of 753 ports across the province.

The company is aiming to reach 800 ports in 2026 and have plans to debut “its first 400-kilowatt charger, offering 100 kilometres of range in just three minutes.”

BC Hydro is working to build an EV charging network across B.C. and currently operates 155 charging locations along highways. These locations are part of the B.C. government’s Electric Highway project completed in 2024.

“These new EV chargers in Hope are part of our investment in electric vehicle infrastructure – supporting EV adoption, reducing range anxiety and helping more British Columbians transition to zero-emission driving,” said Charlotte Mitha, President and CEO of BC Hydro.
