Seniors in the community are invited to a special Christmas tea with the Silvertones Choir at the Maple Ridge Public Library.
The event, called “Seniors Christmas Afternoon with the Silvertones Choir”, is hugely popular and in years past has seen about 150 people pack the library.
Silvertones Choir, is a choir of senior singers sponsored by the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society. They will be providing the entertainment and singing all the Christmas favourites.
According to the society’s website, the choir was formed in 1987 when Marjorie Bates, an accomplished musician and piano player, sought to gather a small group of people who loved to sing.
The mandate of the choir is to provide music and entertainment to the community, mainly to seniors in hospitals, and care and retirement homes. Each year they perform as many as forty concerts, entertaining with familiar songs, and encouraging their audiences to participate.
Light refreshments will be provided and guests are encouraged to dress in festive, holiday attire.
Space at the event is limited, so organizers are asking those who would like to attend to register ahead of time by email at: seniorsnetworkmpk@gmail.com.
However, drop-ins will also be welcomed.
The event is being put on by the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Katzie, Seniors Network, and takes place from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec 3, at 22470 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge.
The Seniors Network is a non-profit, community planning table led by seniors for seniors, who work in collaboration with each other and the community in order to improve the health and well-being of seniors in the community.
