Strong field predicted for B.C. Sr Girls volleyball finals in Vernon

The Okanagan Valley produces some great AAA high school senior girls volleyball action.

Wait until the provincial tournament comes to town.

The Vernon Panthers – currently ranked No. 6 in the provincial AAA rankings – will host the B.C. Championship tournament Nov. 27 to 29, at the Panther Pit.

Opening-day pool action will be played at Vernon Secondary. Games throughout the tournament will also be played at Fulton Secondary in Vernon, and Kalamalka Secondary in Coldstream.

The championship game is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at VSS.

“Triple A is very strong this year,” said tournament director, longtime Vernon volleyball coach Karen Bedard, pointing out that the current No.-1 rated Point Grey Greyhounds of Vancouver recently placed second in the 10-team Red Serge Invitational tournament in Port Coquitlam. The Greyhounds were the only AAA school at the AAAA (Quad A) event.

Right behind the Panthers in the current provincial standings are the seventh-seeded Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops, and the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country. On the outside looking in are Vernon’s Seaton Sonics, ranked 11th.

The Okanagan will receive two berths to the provincials. The Panthers are in automatically as hosts.

Vernon’s Beyond Sport Volleyball Academy and Students Without Borders Academy of Coldstream are playing big roles in the provincials, arranging scorekeepers and lineskeepers as volunteer positions.

Anybody who would like to volunteer during the three-day event can write Bedard at Kbedard@sd22.bc.ca.

Tournament passes will be available at the school(s) doors. They are cash only, $25 for a weekend pass, $10 per day.

The host school has gotten fully behind the provincials.

“The tournament banquet is at VSS and (host organization) BC School Sports is happy because the school cafeteria is doing the catering,” said Bedard. “The school’s leadership group is providing the entertainment, and they’re helping to run the opening ceremonies, setting up everything for that.”

To help pay the cost of running the provincials, the tournament features a silent auction, with nearly 30 items up for bid.

The auction went live on Nov. 3, and is in play until 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29.

The items can be viewed and bid on at 32auctions.com/VSSSrGirls2025. Proceeds from the auction will go to offset tournament costs, as well as to VSS Athletics.
