Despite the fact that a post came straight through his windshield and nearly impaled him, the driver in a recent crash was upset that his coffee had spilled all over his Ford.
The truck driver was on 41st Street early Saturday, Nov. 1 when a car came crashing into him, redirecting the truck through a fence and into two parked cars and a garage.
Alisha Mills heard the commotion around 6:50 a.m. and ran out to see what happened at the corner of her house.
“We had just woke up and it sounded like a freight train coming through,” said Mills, who typically has three vehicles in her driveway but found an extra one that day.
While heartbroken to see her car damaged– which had just been fixed from a prior incident –her partner’s prized classic Mustang which “he’s had for decades because his parents street raced Mustangs when he was a kid” was also damaged.
But seeing the truck and driver, she was thankful no one was hurt.
“One of our fence posts went through his windshield and looks like it should’ve impaled him in his heart. He was just mad his coffee spilled all over the place.”
The truck also took out the neighbour’s fence and a fruit tree.
“It was just a couple people heading to work who had some unfortunate circumstances that caused a whole string of unfortunate circumstances for our neighbourhood,” said Mills, grateful for everyone being so kind, and meeting some neighbours they didn’t know.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said the truck was broadsided by a Toyota Camry driving through on 27th Avenue.
The driver of the Toyota was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield after stopping.
