Spawning salmon are coming up rivers and tributaries to spawn in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, and local salmon groups are sharing this miracle of nature with the community.
The Kanaka Education and Environmental Partnership Society (KEEPS) will be hosting an event called Let the Eggcitement Begin on Sunday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Salmon undergo wondrous transformations beginning the moment they emerge as eggs, and the community is invited to witness the fertilization of thousands of salmon eggs at the Bell-Irving Hatchery, which is run by KEEPS.
The event will be held at the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre at 11484 256th Street in Maple Ridge. KEEPS organizes events that are educational and fun for families.
KEEPS is a registered non-profit with a mission to maintain the health of the Kanaka Creek watershed’s natural ecosystem through education, community involvement, scientific research, land preservation, and partnerships based on stewardship principles.
