B.C. making sweeping changes for more efficient services

B.C.’s Jobs Ministry announced 187 amendments that the province says will make government services more efficient and accessible on Monday (Oct. 27).

Changes to 38 regulations across 10 ministries aim to eliminate red tape, speeding up permit and approval processes that would affect residents and small businesses.

Some of the upcoming changes to regulations include:

• Standardized decals for tobacco and vapour product retailers

• Modernized documentation and requirements/exceptions for soil relocation

• Reduced steps in approving special use permits for provincial forests

• Removing outdated rules and clauses

Other changes for the year aim to make government services more user-friendly by clarifying the wording in regulations and making better use of digital records.

Officials say the updates will help small businesses save time and money, allowing them to focus on growth.

The amendments are part of this year’s regulatory updates for the Better Regulations for British Columbia program, which has put over 2,000 changes into effect since it launched in 2016.
